Editorial responsibilities

The handling editor assesses scope, selects independent reviewers, evaluates reports and records the decision. Reviewers provide constructive and confidential assessments. The editorial office manages files, correspondence and production without directing scholarly outcomes.

Independence and conflicts of interest

Editors and reviewers must disclose relationships that could compromise impartiality. Manuscripts involving an editor are handled by an independent editor. APCs, waivers and payment status are kept separate from acceptance decisions.

Accountability

Authors receive a reasoned decision and may appeal under the publisher’s complaints and appeals policy. Integrity concerns are assessed proportionately, with an opportunity for relevant parties to respond. Editorial appointments are published only with the individual’s agreement and verified affiliation.
